Oh, my God! It is soooo helpful. Thank you!
Can I use article in Medium and similar website? Please enlist some open source article Mister.
You can feel free to translate any website’s article, including Medium, although I’m not sure it will get published in the same publication (I don’t think Medium articles are open source). Of course you can just use it in your own private portfolio. What I would do is to translate the article (on medium, or any other website), and then contact the author and let him/her know. At that point there is a chance they might want to try to get your translation published as well, so as to reach a new audience.
Thank you Mr. Actually, I am very confused right now hehehe. But seeing your comment makes me happier. I am on TED rignt now…
Thanks for sharing!!!
How are the translation services actually done? Do you have any videos that illustrate this?
Sure! Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMwcViLcuU8
I, put it my profile my samples but still no one pick me
🥺🥺
super helpful advice, thank you!!
Great tips, I made it a habit to create portfolio pieces from my jobs at the end of the month and keep them on Google Drive, like that I almost always have a relevant sample for a new potential client! 🙂
An extremely helpful video. My native language is Russian and I’ve failed to find a translator portfolio guide in Russian. It seems that in Post-Soviet countries we are to figure it out ourselves.
Thank you for the video! Wish you all the best!
Let’s say I translate a bunch of 250-300 words fragments of Wikipedia. How do I add them to my portfolio? I upload them as screen captures, PDF, MS Word files? Sorry for the noob question.
I would pick a Wikipedia page of 250-300 words and translate them, then add them to your language version. After all, adding pages to Wikipedia is free. You just need to register. That way you can screen capture, but also link to the official page and show how you translated it!
Thank you very much! I’ve been struggling to find a job as a translator but building a portfolio is crucial!
Recently I’ve been considering the possibility to get one with no work experience and this helps a lot!
Hi ,
Can I translate Medium articles feeling free? I mean without any copyrights problems ?
You can certainly translate them. If you just keep the translation for practice then that’s fine. If you intend on publishing your translation then you should probably contact the author and ask them about it. I can’t imagine they would object to having a good translation of their article though. Maybe offer to link back to the original or something.
I want to put them in my portfolio , is it fine?
Thank you! I was a bit scared of just going straight to some big company to ask to translate but as it turns out I can start showing progress just on Wikipedia and scale from there. You’ve opened a lot of doors for me.
