I haven’t used GPT yet, but I think if it helps you to apply for jobs faster than you usually do then it’s helpful. In fact this is something we should being using to be part of the trend (not just for the trend but you don’t want to be the last one to apply for some job!).
And maybe checking translations could be another time waster for many. So, if AI can help us more and more to reduce the time we spend doing it, then it’s okay. I know there are tools for that, but I mean making it even better!
Well, that’s the big issue these days with AI and translation. Is MTPE with AI worth it? Is it ethical? Does it actually work? Also don’t forget that all these AI platforms (including Google translate) are not confidential. Any text you paste in that textbox ends up on a database somewhere. A few months ago some Samsung employees got into trouble for this very reason with Chatgpt. So keep it in mind!
Interesting approach, thanks, Robert! Glad I could catch it here after the ITD 😊 I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable with copying my whole CV into a free-to-use tool though, but I can definitely see the time saving potential. I see the most success with highly personalized and sometimes witty/funny parts in cold or warm prospecting. I wonder whether the AI would come up with something natural enough to be considered witty lol! Will definitely continue to figure out different use cases. I currently use it for brainstorming, market research, title/header ideas, and finding specialised terminology that I can describe well.
Yes, the sounding “natural” part is an issue (and I believe was the first question in the Q&A!). Of course, you can ask Chatgpt to make it sound less formal or something, but I didn’t find that helpful. On the other hand, I find Cover letters to usually be more formal than general correspondence, so I said not to worry too much if it sounds a bit formal. Chances are, whatever cover letter you write yourself will end up sounding a bit formal and a bit less “natural” as well. Of course, review everything before sending it out too!
Re: pasting your CV in Chatgpt, if you’re worried about confidentiality, then yes. Maybe avoid it (or take out your name), but to be honest, if someone is going to steal your CV, I doubt it will be via Chatgpt, but more by scraping it off the dozens of websites and databases where it gets posted. But this is a whole different issue, which I’m afraid is getting worse and worse.
