Hi Adrian, i love your channel since i find in it a safe source of information about this field, which is new for me. I feel as if this channel was my ‘mentor’, it helps a newbie to start encouraged and not feeling alone. I needed to ask you one question: im following your tips for finding jobs in 2024 and after some time in ProZ i found MANY job postings that require previous experiences/jobs and certifications in translations, but HOW can i guy like me, a fresh starter, make his first job if most of the clients wont have me? I want just to find the first jobs, you know, the ‘humble beginings’ to build some experience, to pay for a certification and to build a better CV to work for an agency in the future.
Do you have any tips for me?

Hello there, thank you so much for your kind words. “Safe source of information” is exactly what I’m going for, so that’s great to read. Yes, finding jobs without experience and not being able to build it up in the beginning is one of the major struggles. Have you seen my video on the Permission Paradox? This is what this phenomenon is commonly referred to. I think you could benefit from what I outline there. In short: you don’t need to be paid or hired to gain experience. You can do voluntary translations, you can just translate on your own as well and build a portfolio.

Hallo Adrian, I am an aspiring German English translator, ( both mot my native languages ). Your videos about 15 best resources for translators was extremely helpful. I started using some of them and they are extremely useful. Otherwise I was solely relying on just the one, I had known 20 years ago. Also the one about setting our yearly or hourly rate also was quite helpful. So thanks a lot.

Thank you so much for the feedback, that is great to hear. Can I ask what your native language is then if DE and EN are not? And why you wouldn’t want to translate from or into this language? Just asking because it’s quite curious that someone would pick two foreign languages for their combination 🙂
