i can confirm that when i first heard maltese i thought a moroccan from the north was talking
and i undrstand 90% of it
cause northan moroccans understand arabic and frensh and spanish and english
not all of them ofc , and that why maltese make sense for us , cause it was latinized , just like us by two latin language .

Being close in its pronunciation to the Maghrebic dialect, rather than the Levantine dialect, I have found the speech somewhat difficult to understand. However, while reading the language, I have found it much easier to recognise the words originating from Arabic.
