Hi, I have a couple of questions:

First, have you ever translated websites before? If so, is your approach to word counting the same as any other task? Also which stuff do you not count?

Also if the website is a Wix website for instance and the owner of the business needs me to use Wix to post my translations on the website, since I am pretty competent with Wix, would I just need to charge more and that’s it or would you suggest I have some other credentials?

Also how would you approach SEO?

Really hoping you can answer all these questions here, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey there. I’ve translated a couple websites, although they’ve never been my specialty. I always specified, however, that I can perform the translation, but any formatting/coding needed to be done by the client, since I don’t know how to do any of that.
In terms of SEO and localization in general, that’s usually what took up most of my time. This will depend on your target language and industry, and this is where real skill is needed. I’m not sure what your precise question is in this regard, but as a general rule SEO should be in the target language, and I would use Google Trends as a helping guide as well. This is discussed more in detail here: https://www2.proz.com/forum/translation_theory_and_practice/171407-seo_and_translation.html?phpv_redirected=1

@Freelance Translator Tips Hi, so basically I wanted to know whether I can just simply ask a business owner (i.e. a restaurant owner) to send me all the SEO keywords and then I can just simply translate those, in addition to the public website and any hidden pages or subpages if possible and then an SEO expert can take care of the rest. I’m not an SEO expert.

The link you sent me was sort of helpful but you are right in that my question is very precise.

With Wix, if the website is a Wix website for instance and the owner of the business needs me to use Wix to post my translations on the website, since I am pretty competent with Wix, would I just need to charge more and that’s it or would you suggest I have some other credentials?

Also when you did translate websites, what was your approach to word counting? Also which stuff did you not count?

Apologies if my questions are stupid haha. I’m just starting out.

It’s about quality and quantity. And it’s better if you make choices thinking of quality because keeping a good flow of clients depends much on the results of your projects.

This was an interesting insight. Definitely rather essential to stick to long-term clients than a one-off agency gig
