I wish i can become one good translator
What is stopping you? 🙂
I too got the same wish 😀
Fun interview, thanks (and: whoa, an earthquake?!).
@Robert, I’m curious: you say that you started your “how to become a freelancer” course ten years ago “because there was nothing out there”.
Seriously? “Nothing out there”? Moving right along, what do you think of the plethora of “how to become” courses that have surfaced in the past 12 months, many from translators who seem to be (bravely?) pushing back against the collapse in their own translation business? How to choose among them + things to beware of?
Hey there! Glad you enjoyed it.
And yes, there was really nothing for Freelance translators back then (emphasis on the “freelance”). When I first set up my YT channel I mentioned this. No other channel was helping freelance translators, and the only help was on the forums of Proz. But there was no place that collected all the information in one place. At least none I could find, except possibly Corinne McCarthy’s book.
Now you can find a couple, although I still think my course is the best (yes, I know I’m biased, but there you go). Mine is the only one I’ve seen that has a step by step walk-through for the entire process, rather than random information. I confess I haven’t kept up with all the plethora of new courses, mainly because the few I did look at seemed like cheap attempts at making passive money online and I felt like it cheapened the entire genre. But I’d be happy to hear of any course that is serious and works well!
Thanks for watching, Chris, appreciate it!! 🙂 I have seen quite a few threads on LinkedIn recently discussing the pros and cons of online advice/online courses. I often read the argument that “if this person has such a functioning business, how do they have time to tell others about how to run a business”. Find this quite a funny/interesting take that I was actually thinking of making a video about 🙂 I’d be happy to hear your thoughts as well about the new courses emerging. I know that you have tried out many just to see the quality of them. I can definitely see how it’s very easy to scam people in that way (i.e. give me money so I can teach you to make money). I guess all we can do really is trust the reviews that are out there, look at the previews that are available of the courses, take the ones that have stood the test of time like Robert’s, and never spend more than one can afford.
I liked this livestream and your advice Adrian and Robert. Pura vida from Costa Rica!
For many jobs you would need legal and medical together. How can you say if you see this combination they are nothing. It depends on studies and experience, and age I’m sure. Please clarify. 😊
Hey there! I just meant it as an example, which you see all too often, of many unrelated specializations listed in order to get jobs in as many industries as possible. Of course, if you specialize in Medical law that’s a different story!
Not just medical law. I also mean certain texts that need to be certified, studies, texts for the pharma industry, etc. Medicine and Law go well together. Of course, no one knows everything and research skills are essential. You meant when someone lists, Technical, Medical, Legal, Financial, IT, etc. I guess. @@FreelanceTranslatorTips
@@Sarah_Sunshine1 Exactly. I was just trying to think of several specializations that were completely disparate. But you’re right. I was thinking of those people who basically list as many specializations as they can because they feel it will get them more clients.
I love both of your channels! This is a dream collaboration for me 😊❤
