    I ❤️THIS!! Thank you, Olly!
I knew about Carlos, Charles and Seb; but Toto was a surprise! Awesome!

  • @thedj9553 says:

Ferrari drivers (other than Kimi Raikkonen) are required to learn Italian and speak Italian with the Italian media

  • @elainepotgieter9403 says:

Wow! Toto is impressive. I didn’t know he could speak THAT many languages. Sebastian has always been a favourite of mine when it came to language skills.

Thanks for this great vid Olly!, Please could you do one about soccer players and tennis players too as some of them are incredible polyglots, my favourite being Novak Djokovic.

  • @elainepotgieter9403 says:

When Danny Ric got his Monza win, he was speaking in Italian which really helped endear him to the Tifosi that day.

  • @sadiessafari2502 says:

Great video Olly! My two favorite things combined: F1 and language learning!

  • @brummiesalteno-81 says:

I’m definitely going to look up some of those Italian interviews, that’s my new language goal for this year.

  • @jonathanmoreiraph says:

F1 , Military Personnel, and Soccer/Football players always amaze me at how many languages they know and how fluent they can speak

    • @andreas5809l says:

I know from a friend who plays for German football team Eintracht Frankfurt’s youth team that they give their international players a software called THINKIN to learn German quickly.

    • @cockbeard says:

I’m not a polyglot but I understand many languages and have been lucky enough to speak a few at different times. The two most important factors are exposure and motivation. I’d hope that 50k plus a week provides the motivation, and working 3 hours a day leaves plenty of time for immersion and exposure. Mostly referencing the sports guys there, but also I’m ex military and learning the local lingo saves so much time and gains so much local respect it’s always worth doing. I don’t know any professional soldiers who didn’t invest in this at least after their first time abroad and not knowing anything

My Favorite is Lukaku, He speaks like 8 languages, including Lingala, the language of his parents.

  • @londongael414 says:

That was fun! While many of these drivers have an enviable command of several languages, just as many demonstrate that you don’t have to be fluent to enjoy having fun, doing your job and making friends in another language. It’s not about passing exams or impressing with your polyglot skills, it’s about sharing those moments with others.

  • @wariods3588 says:

    “What’s their secret? ”

Have people around you that are either native or fluent in the languages you want to learn. That’s what ive gotten so far out of the video.

    • @ablair37 says:

its easy i speak English (Native), Dutch (its quite easy very close related) Germany (close to English and Dutch), Greek (lived there) i know some French and Spanish from school, and currently learning Finnish as Duolingo doesn’t do Estonian but is dam close

    • @mrgrumpycat9049 says:

thx bro saved me 26 mins

  • @DenUitvreter says:

It’s very common for the Dutch to learn English, German and French in high school at the higher levels, but I saw Verstappen also do 40 minutes of talkshow in German, not just a few lines after the race but in depth, and mostly correct German. That’s quite impressive without having been emersed in German like living and working there but just by schooling. The most remarkable language skill in F1 might actually be that Nico Hulkenberg is fluent in Dutch.

    • @EarthlyJoys says:

From what Ive heard Max learned German while driving in karting. The karting track belonged to Michael Schumacher, and Max was still a young child back then, so he picked up the language as kids do.

    • @DenUitvreter says:

@@EarthlyJoys Exposure makes a lot of difference in language learning, but it’s also properly schooled German that he speaks.

  • @jiraiya.13 says:

Just loved how Uncle Olly put “Britney” as Nico’s nickname. 🤣🤣

  • @saad_ghannam says:

Not in F1, but Porsche Hypercar factory driver Laurens Vanthoor speaks (at least) four languages, his native Dutch, English, German and French, and while I can’t speak for the latter his English and German are perfect. Iron Dames driver Michelle Gatting also speaks at least three languages, her native Danish, English and French.

  • @shelleyneveling2214 says:

Olly, this is so informative, fun and such a pleasure to watch. I love F1 and was glued learning so many fun things about my F1 boys!!!! Well done 🎉🎉🎉

  • @francoisdvanderwesthuizen6772 says:

Danny Ric can also speak English, Australian, Canadian, Floridian, Californian, Texan…

  • @williamnewton5556 says:

It’s because they grew up rich and traveled, and then traveled a lot when doing younger racing and picked up languages. Saved everyone the time

  • @GeorgeVenturi says:

Rosberg speaking Spanish is really impressive, he does sounds like he is a native speaker.

  • @GeorgeWashington76 says:

My dad randomly met Michael Schumacher in 2012 and they conversed in Italian, and I can tell you Michael could still speak Italian extremely well despite having been away from Ferrari for a few years at that point. By the way Michael could also speak french extremely well, there are interviews of him speaking it fluently without any mistake.
