We had no idea she could speak French 😊 Bravo! 👏
Could you make a video for suggesting books for intermediate learners in Spanish
Great show on one of my favorite athletes. I do have a serious question about lack of motivation to learn a language. I love learning French. I find German intriguing, and Italian makes me grin. But I cannot get motivated to learn Spanish. I grew up in Texas during the 70’s, so I’ve certainly been exposed to Spanish on a daily basis. I try to take Spanish classes, but I get bored and quit. I previously thought my upbringing in Texas didn’t make me racist regarding Spanish speakers, but lately I’m not so sure. Any thoughts?
I think you simply don’t perceive Spanish as an exciting language to learn because you’ve been hearing it all your life, so your motivation isn’t there in the same way it would be with a more ‘exotic’ language you’re unfamiliar with. It’s normal! In other countries where a second or third language is constantly around you growing up (like South Africa) people experience the same. Just learn whatever language you want to learn – there are no rules. 🙂
Another thought, I grew up in an area where I heard Spanish frequently. I hated learning it, because I could hear how terrible my accent was. 😂 I made better progress with a language I did not hear growing up because I allowed myself to be a beginner instead of expecting perfection.
I’m the same. I was born and raised and live in SoCal and I don’t want to learn Spanish. It seems boring. I’m learning French
Great Video. I always enjoy seeing someone else’s journey with language learning. Its a perfect motivator to keep going when you hit a wall
Serena is a billionaire. She can do anything at any time. True though, she was also HER before the billions…
her parents had to be in the money, since both daughters became tennis players and tennis isn’t a cheap sport.
I’m enjoying this series of interesting videos about well-known people learning a new language. I had no idea about their language skills. To the untrained ear, Serena sounds fluent and if I didn’t know who she was, I would have said she was French.
I would luv to learn french but my attention span is short🙁 I did study some french in school years ago
no one speaks a language perfectly unless they are some sort of teacher in that language (even then, sometimes it’s not going to be perfect)
Novak’s lack of obsession with perfection in his foreign languages is an interesting contrast looking at his obsession with perfection in tennis. He truly knows where to direct his obsessiveness in certain areas of his life and where not to do so.
Great video, thanks.
I remember that Serena presented championship speech at the Roma Open by Italian.
is Kiswahili a Cat 3 language? Yes!
It’s even hard for the natives 🤣
She’s so incredible ❤
Sorry to break your enthusiasm, but her French is pretty average, actually. She must have studied it for 6 months tops. Her performance is only remarkable in monolingual America.
Absolutely…learning Italian, I’ve learnt through classes, not in the language, but in art, yoga; whatever you’re passionate about.
Inspiring video. I’m English, moved to Italy 20 years ago, and speak pretty good Italian…although I’m learning daily.
I really want to learn a third language. My head says German because I work for a German family and not many people speak German. My heart says, learn French…it’s so beautiful, so je ne sai quoi, so sexy.
Je ne savais pas qu’elle parlait français ni qu’elle vivait à Paris
