French: When you try to speak pizza with beer accent.
Portuguese: When you try to speak taco with vodka accent.
true, best summery so far
Taco? More like paella, as Spanish originated in SPAIN?
If you’re gonna say taco for Spanish, say also an African Dish for French, it’d be exactly as valid 😂
@EJDefinitely not since most African speakers of French learned it as a second language and speak a native one as their first such as Lingala, Bambara or Wolof. Same can’t be said for Hispanophones living in the Americas who’ve intermixed with the Spaniards for centuries and have since lost their ancestral languages for the most part.
In my opinion it should be the Portuguese flag up there not the Brazilian one.
I have lots of other videos about Portuguese which have the Portuguese flag, because the samples were from European Portuguese. In this video the samples are mostly from Brazilian Portuguese.
Está perfeito desse jeito 🇧🇷❤
Everybody knows the real portuguese is the brazillian one!
@Anonymous Bosch You must be joking right? The Portuguese language began in Portugal. The Brazilian people speak Portuguese because it was the Portuguese that discovered Brazil that’s why they speak Portuguese and not Brazilian because there’s no such thing as the Brazilian language. Do your homework. This conversation is over goodbye 👋
@Fernanda 1972do you get so angry when they use the flag of the United States to represent the English language?
You say Portuguese but then you show a Brazilian flag. ? So french vs Brazilian Portuguese not mainland?
Mainland you say 😂😂😂
it could be any, hes probably showing the country with the most population
Most of the video applies to both, but the accent in most of the samples is from Rio De Janeiro, so I used the Brazilian flag. All my other videos about Portuguese show the Portuguese flag in the thumbnail.
@Langfocus It would be interesting to compare different dialects of Portuguese. My grandparents are from Sao Miguel and though I barely speak Portuguese, I notice a big difference between continental and the Portuguese spoken in the islands.
@Captain_Chris_Pike Yes, I would like to compare more varieties in the future.
The fact is the Brazil flag in the thumb make this video a victory for me as a brazilian
For me too! I believe it was made because brazilian portuguese, as it happens with most of the european languages of former colonies, has many archaique features preserved, and there will be more similarities between french and pt-br to be found in this comparison.
@Guernica it most certainly doesn’t
@Guernica
It is also true for French. What is spoken in America (Louisiana and Canada) has much more archaism than Parisian French. But they never show Québec’s flag to represent French language.
I think if they do so, it is because of the demographic power of Brasil over Portugal.
But why not the same for Mexico with Spanish??
I don’t remember too the England’s flag representing English language. rather UK or sometimes USA.
Sentia muita falta desta comparação e agora vai se tornar realidade 🎉 video mais experado por mim neste canal… valeuu produtor ❤
As a Brazilian who just started learning french this video is a blessing! thank you Paul 😀
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Great video! Thank you for sharing Paul
Oh no, the Portuguese 🇵🇹 are gonna get so pissed 🤭
Nah, it’s whatever. I’m sure Paul will include European Portuguese whenever it will be interesting.
My prediction is that there is a huge gap between French and Portugese. Portugese has more in common with Latin than with French. Other Latin languages are closer to French unlike Portugese. 🤔
expet didn’t portuguese borrow à lot of words from french
I don’t think so. All Romance languages are closest to each other than they are to latin. A modern Roman koine would be more efficient than classical Latin for this family.
Guys maybe you’re new to this channel, but the point of the Brazilian flag is clearly because most of the examples are taken from the brazillian dialects. I do believe there may be some European Portuguese examples whenever it will be noteworthy.
Asked earlier and he confirmed it. Credits even have his go-to European Portuguese sample speaker, ever since his remaster of the Spanish vs. Portuguese video.
Spices of the Roma.
**This video is blocked in Portugal**
Como irritar um português… 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Boy ain’t no way boy
my 2nd and 3rd languages 💙♥️💚💛
This is gonna be interesting to me, as a Brazilian. French to me looks so different from other Latin languages like Spanish and Italian.
Very similar but not enough for mutual intelligibility. French speakers can probably gain a decent grasp of spoken Portuguese with a few months of exposure and practice but the same isn’t true for Portuguese speakers who need considerable more time to bridge the gap between spoken and written French, making cognates harder for them to spot. Portuguese often struggle with /ø/, /œ/, consonant clusters involving R like /vR/, whereas French speakers struggle with nasal diphtongues, the tapped R and pronouncing the two types of “a” that portguese distinguishes.
Overall, they’re still very close, especially compared to Romanian or Romansh but not as close as Spanish is to Portuguese or Catalan/Italian are to French.
How similar are Spanish and Catalan?
