Hello Adrian, your video was very helpful! Thank you for your valuable content.
I have almost graduated from university in translation and interpreting, and one of my professors shared the opinion that nowadays in the translation industry, it’s better to start as an in-house translator to build skills and gain experience, than to start freelancing right after that, because you’ll end up working with giant agencies that pay very little. This opinion is based on the fact that there are no medium-sized jobs anymore, only small or extremely large projects with hundreds of thousands of words, so you can’t make a living as an unskilled entry-level freelance translator. What’s your take on this?

    • Freelanceverse - Adrian Probst says:

Thanks a lot for your comment, Kamira! Happy it was useful! I do kind of agree that it’s better to start in an agency. I did the same, this way, you learn about the profession without having the pressure of immediately performing at your highest level. Also the evaluation with the small/big jobs vs. middle-sized jobs is true. Me perosnally, I prefer to work on small jobs. This allows you to finish them rather quickly within 1 and 2 days to be very productive and move on to the next one.

@Freelanceverse – Adrian Probst Thank you for your reply! At first I didn’t want to believe it was true what my prof said, haha! But thank you for sharing, I will definitely take this into consideration when looking for employment after getting my bachelor’s degree. Keep up the good work!
